With a population of 2,500, it’s easy to get your bearings in the seaside town. Follow Ross Road, the main road hugging the harbour, and you’ll come across some of the Falkland Islands’ classic architecture. Many of the jewel-coloured homes are composed of timber frames and iron roofs, constructed from kits imported from Britain since trees don’t grow naturally here.
Stanley also has a few Victorian-style buildings that are more what you’d expect to find in the UK. The Jubilee Villas (pictured), built in 1887 to honour Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, were modeled after traditional 19th-Century British terraced town houses.
